Method: Aim is for defending team to stop penetrative passes being played forward semi opposed. Team in possession must play 4 passes unopposed before looking to play ball into their striker to score. Defending team look to stop this by staying compact and ensuring no large gaps appear within their unit as they move with the ball. If defending team win the ball via a blocked pass, they can transition quickly to their striker to score.
Coaching Points: moving together as a unit to stay compact, communication to press, awareness of opposition striker to screen passes forward, press, cover, cover.

Method: main objective for the defending team (blues) is to stop opposition playing productive passes through their middle third & stop penetrative passes centrally, with aim to make pitch compact centrally. Ball starts with opposition goalkeeper every time. Defenders aim is to block creative passes forward, and look for opportunities/triggers to press and regain possession and transition to attack quickly.
Coaching Points: defending team units move with the ball - pendulum effect. Press and cover, delay the attack and forward passes, goalkeeper communication to screen passes into the striker, communication when to press, when to delay.

Method:4 players per cone. Player at A starts with the ball, and is pressed by man at opposite side of the cone. The ball is played to the cone to the right, where again man opposite this cone presses the ball. Progress to allowing the man who presses to dictate which side the ball is passed to.
Coaching Points: pressure on attacker - press aggressively to create game like tempo and decision making. Correct body shape when pressing - which side do you want ball to go to? move as the ball moves.
