Objective:
We work on high speed of play and intense pressing within a possession game.
Description:
In a 45 x 55 yard area, we play 6 v 6 inside and have 2 extra players for each team outside in the positions shown. Players within the area aim to maintain possession and play the ball from one outside player to the other without the opposition intercepting the ball (1 goal).
When the end players receive they move into the area and the player who made the pass moves to the outside.
The players are limited to 3 touches throughout. Play 3 minute periods.
Progression:
Make a team complete a set amount of passes (10) before being allowed to score - draw opposition to press the ball to open up areas to play through.
Coaching points:
1. Players should focus on quick passes, forward runs, overlaps, and creating space to pass to the outside players.
2. The defending team needs to press the ball, prevent passes to outside players, stop series of passes and maintain a positional shape to make the practice more game realistic.
