Warm up Race (15 mins)

Set up two lines approximately 12 yards apart. in the middle of these lines have two gates of different colours 2 yards wide as shown in the picture.

One player from each line runs into the middle and run on the spot (players should be pumping the arms to work on proper running technique), the coach then calls out a colour and the players race thru that color gate. When the coach calls out the color the next two players shoul make their way to the middle. You ca add activities for the players to do when they are in the middle (header, touch the ground, turn etc)

For an extra progression you can make it that if the coach yells 'blue' the players go to yellow and if he coach yells 'yellow' the players go to blue.

Stuck in The Mud (10 mins)

Split your field in half and have the game played on one half.

Players Start without soccer balls. For the first round have the coach play the mud monster. If the players get tagged by the mud monster they are "Stuck in the mud" If they are stuck in the mud they must stand still with their legs open. To become unstuck another players must crawl thru the stuck players legs. The players should be encouraged to shout for help when stuck in the mud. After a few games have every player except the freeze monster get a ball.

The mud monster then has to tag or touch the soccer balls of the other players. If the mud monster touches your soccer ball you have to hold your soccer ball above your head and shout for help. To get unstuck one of the other players must put their ball thru your legs.

If game is too easy you can add another mud monster.

Pirate's Treasure (15 mins)

Place all the balls (treasure) in the Treasure Island in center of the field. Split your players into teams of three or four and create a "pirate ship" (base) for each of the teams. These bases should all be the same distance from the Soccer balls.

When the coach starts the game one player from each team must run to the middle and use their feet to dribble one piece of treasure back to their pirate ship. When they return their ship they must 'high five' the next team mate so that he can go and get another piece of treasure.

When all the treasure has gone which ever ship has the most treasure is the winner.

You can then tell the players that the treasure is cursed and must be returned to the island using the same one player from each team method as before.

To progress this game when all the treasure from the middle has been collected players can go to other pirate ships and collect the treasure.

Players can not block/ or stop other players from taking the treasure. Have a countdown to end this version of this game. You may want to ask a parent to supervise each pirate ship to ensure that no blocking takes place.

1v1 to two goals (Same Goals) (20 mins)

Move your goals so that you have two goals on one side as shown.

Split your players into two teams if you have pinnies use them as it helps with clarity. Have the teams stand either side of the coach with all the soccer balls with the coach in the middle.

The coach should play a ball out to one of the two teams. The first player in each line runs out and tries to gain possession and score in either goal. If a goal is scored or the ball goes out of bounds the coach shouts “Get Out of Here" and plays in a new ball straight away for the next players.

Can the players move as soon as the coach plays the ball in?

If one goal is blocked by the defender can we change direction and try to score in the other goal.

Can the defender make a "banana run" (red line) to get inbetween the attacker and the goal rather than running straight at the attacker.

Scrimmage (30 mins)

Split your players in two and have a home team staying on your field, and an away team playing on your neighbour’s field. Start two games of 3v3 on each field. Have the coaches and the subs in the middle of the two fields. When the ball goes out of bounds the coach yells "New Ball" and plays another ball onto the field
