Animation 1
Here is our preferred option #1 on goal kicks, if on. The movement of the players should often create gaps between the opposition, allowing us to play to forward's feet. Sometimes the path is blocked and we solve it other ways, but this is option #1.
1 - starting position on goal kicks : defenders half way between posts and edge of penaty area, wingbacks half way between outer edge of penalty area and touchline and beyond retreat line marker, forwards in line with defenders, central midfield player starts high
2 - movement to support as ball travels : wingback moves to touchline, dropping down as needed. Central midfield player drops on an angle, body shape open to face forward. Striker in line with ball moves toward ball to receive to feet. Opposite striker moves beyond to anticipate a penetrating pass.
3 - combination with any number of players now allows us to possess the ball in the opposition's half of the field (I show the example of combining with wingback)
The angles, distances and timing are critical in supporting the ball to create the gaps to play through into our striker. Then we see how we move up the field connected "back to front".
