Pirate Ship (15 mins)

Pirate Ship - 20 x 30 yard area, create a small safe zone (5x5)

Teach the players the following commands:

1. Walk the Plank - move the ball back and forth with the inside of their feet, if they loose control they fall off the plank.

2. Scrub the Deck - Show the players to move the ball stationary without moving (putting the foot on the ball and moving it around). Roll it forwards roll is back using the bottom of the foot (Sole)

Go back and forth between the two commands. Have the players dribble around and you can add the next two commands.

3. Hoist the Sail - Have players reach down with both hands, grab the ball on both sides, and lift the ball as high as they can. Players return the ball back to the ground, and start dribbling.

4. Shark Attack - When the coach yells shark attack, this is the cue for the players to quickly dribble their ball into the safe zone without being tagged by the coach.

Sleeping Octopus (15 mins)

Sleeping Octopus: Within the 20x30 yard grid, create a safe cave and an octopus cave as shown in the diagram.

Begin the game without a ball and then introduce the ball after a round or two. Players must run to the Octopus cave and yell "Wake Up Sleeping Octopus."  Once the Octopus awakes, the players have to run back to their cave without getting tagged by the octopus. Do a round with hopping and then galloping, etc. Add the ball, and play with the players dribbling over to the octopus, yelling "Wake Up Sleeping Octopus," and then having to dribble back. Focus on keeping the ball close, and stopping the ball within their safe cave.

This is a fun one.

Sharks and Minnows (15 mins)

Sharks and Minnows - 20 x 30 yard zone

Create a area wtih two endzones. Players are minnows and they must swim from one safe beach to the other through the shark infested water. Their goal is to make it to the other side safely and wait for the next round but if the shark (coaches) steal their ball and put it out of the grid then they become a shart also. Play resumes until there are only one or two left and they with the game. Play twice and have the winner start as the shark for the next game. Have fun with it.

Coaching Points:

Keep the ball close

Get head up to see and then dribble away form danger

Change speeds and directions to evade sharks.

3v3 Game View (15 mins)

3v3 Game View

As you can see, we play two 3v3 games on a larger field that is lined for U7 or U8. We set up Pugg goals and play across the fields. Subs are sitting in the larger goals ready to be brought into the game when needed. Coaches throw in a ball when it goes out of bounds "ball in". Coachs can assist players who are not getting much action with the "ball "in moments.

-Teams play 3v3 (No goalies). Coaches have balls in hand ready to throw one back in when the ball goes out of bounds. This keeps the game going and allows the coach to influence the game a bit. IE- Help a weaker player get the ball more.

-To the right, is the kick off set-up to begin a game or after a goal is scored. Defending team has to back up a few feet to begin.

-There are "NO" goalkicks or corner kicks in these age groups. Coaches are ready to say "New Ball In" and the play resumes when the ball goes out of play.
