Passing and Receiving in Tight Areas

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Key Factors
Organisation
Coaching Points: - Scan before receiving - do I know which cone ball is coming from/going to?
- Body shape to receive - half turn but protecting ball
- Weight of pass - strong enough to allow the turn, make us deal with it
- High tempo - as soon as one ball leaves the box, next one is in play - quick reactions, am I aware of pattern?
- If we have to hit recovery run, are we doing it right, immediately? Take ownership of mistakes
Progression 3: Players who receive in box can play to any cone (follow pass) - scan between receiving and playing so we know where we're playing from

Key Factors
Organisation
Progression: - One player from zone 3 can now drop into zone 2 to receive ball with no pressure and dribble into zone 3
Coaching Points: - Does body shape allow us to receive and move forwards after final pass?
- Can we create space away from defender to allow us to carry the ball?
- When is correct time to drop into zone 2 (from zone 3)
- Final pass may have to be backwards, to allow space for us to drive forwards.

Key Factors
Organisation
Coaching Points: - When is right time to drop into those zones?
- Tempo of pass into zone - can we playing and out quickly?
- Support runs around zone - do we recognise when someone has played in? How can we offer options?
- We don't always have to go forwards - can we use the set to allow us to open gaps and progress ball different ways?
