Day 4 Functional

Objective: Apply pressure and counter pressure in the midfield zone (Pressing Zone)

Sacchi Staple

Coaching Points: Both teams have to make a min of 6 passes before attacking the goal.

Work on pressing principles, ball oriented, aggressive. T2a always vertical and runs off ball. 5/5 attack/defend rule.

Day 5

Description:

We call it our identity game - three teams competing over the whole pitch, where two teams play each other and the other team is waiting on the other half. So one team is always defending the halfway line and attacking the goal; and one team is defending the goal and attacking the halfway line.

Method:

  • White/Blue team look to play out with our box principle, two deep lying players and #9/10 operate as top of box.
  • Black team high press looking to score in our 3412. One winger joins the #9 to make it a two up top. 10 covers the central zone, one full back pushes on/same side as winger going up front.
Coaching Points:
  • Aggressive 3412 high press
  • The Red Bull "SARD" method
  • S: Sprinting towards player and ball as the ball travels.
  • A: Alle gemeinsam — a German phrase that translates as ‘all together’. A ball-orientated press, where the focus is pressing with more players than the opponents have around the ball
  • R: Reingehen — a German word that translates as ‘going in’; a demand of full commitment to winning the ball
  • D: Dazukommen — ‘Join in’; the second wave of the press, with the midfielders pushing up to support their forward
Transition to attack is vertical and quick. 6 seconds to score.

Player Detail:

- Stay compact, force wide.

- Stop crosses into box, be aggressive

- Defend box, body position, tight in the box, good contact clearence, step up as unit.

- T2A with Quality, look for goal early.
