Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Stopping the number 10 getting the ball

Screen 1 (20 mins)

Organisation

• Pitch size: half a pitch
• Players: 9v7 defending team (reds) is 9 including the keeper.
• Mini goals on the halfway line are there for when the defensive team win the ball back to play into to counter attack quickly

Session aims:

• The aim is to screen and cover the striker and number 10 from getting the ball. To do this the two centre backs are going to screen the strikers run preventing them getting the ball forcing the ball out wide or backwards.
• The CDM is going to man mark the number 10
• The closest player to the ball is going to press and call when to press with him and making sure we only show the ball wide or back to stop the striker getting access to the ball.

Considerations:

If the striker drops deep can the team make sure the push together and then the midfielder control screening the striker.

If the striker or the 10 goes wide can the player be covered to follow them
