Car Testing

Session based on having extra room outside on 3G or grass.

Make use of space by setting up progressions of games in separate area's to minimise setup time & waiting within session *if space allows

Assistants to be alert at all times & encourage participation from all players.

Group sizes maybe big so coach needs to be loud, energetic & organised.

Bring the players in to ask them if they have watched the film 'cars' ask for different characters from the film & say that all players are going to be competing in a 'cars grand prix'

Session setup -

Area big enough for all players to dribble round in the middle

Cone off 4 sperate areas with different colours in each corner which will be used for different skills

Each player with a ball each

Session walkthrough -

Each player has their own car - what colour/character is their car

Each driver will take their car out for a test-drive around the area

Players to dribble around - coach to challenge them not to crash into other cars & keep their car nice & close

Introduce traffic lights - Red = Stop Yellow = Slow/Get Ready Green = Go

Explain that the 4 garages in each corner are to help different parts of there cars & to get them ready for the race

Garage 1 = Pump up tyres - Players to perform toe taps

Garage 2 = Petrol - Players to perform side to sides while counting how much petrol is going in

Garage 3 - Valet - Players to perform ball rolls on each foot to keep car clean

Garage 4 - Suspension - Players to sit down on the ball & bounce 3/4 times to check suspension of the car

Coach then to have a mixture of all traffic lights & different garages giving players an opportunity to visit each a few times & try to test memory by asking which specific garage is for which skill?

When the coach shouts 'trade in' drivers to stop their balls still, leave them & go & find another car to drive around.

Coach to give out extra bonus seconds for good dribbling/skills & listening skills which will help them in the race

Coaching Points

Close control

Small touches

Scanning the area for space

head up to find the correct garage

Use different parts of the foot

Use both feet

Car's Grand Prix

Session setup -

Set racetrack up with two areas at the side for 2 different garages

*Shape of the track can be however the coach see's fit

*Size of track should be on the bigger side if possible to give players chance to dribble more

If space allows two separate racetracks can be setup for players to have a turn on both. Assistant to watch over 2nd track.

Players have a ball each

Make sure the start/finish line is clearly marked

Session Walkthrough -

Drivers are now onto the qualifying round of the grand prix

Drivers told they are not allowed to cut corners so cannot drive in the middle of the circle or they could be disqualified

Coach to join in with players to show them how to go around the track & to get players comfortable with the session

When the lights go green, the race starts

Nearly halfway round the cars need pitstop number 1, they must come off the track to change tyres - players to perform 6-8 toe taps then can rejoin the race

Close to the finish is pitstop number 2, players come off the track to fill up petrol to finish the lap - players to perform 6-8 side to sides

Then cross the finish line

Progressions

Players can survive 1st lap without having to pitstop, then on the 2nd lap they have to pitstop twice

Players will do 2 laps. 1 pitstop on each lap

Final Progression

'Cars Grand Prix'

Players can be separated into teams/individual/over 2 tracks etc

They will now race for prizes - captain of the team in the matches/getting to pick team name for matches could be a motivation for players to do well

Players to race around the track, calling in at the pitstops along the way

Coach to decide how many laps

*If players are in teams the players waiting can be encouraged to cheer teammates on etc from the side

*Coach must be enthusiastic at all times with encourage to keep the players engaged

Coaching points from previous session recapped - add dribbling at speed whilst keeping control of the ball

Players will be ready for matches now - set up 2/3/4 pitches if space allows to have all players moving all the time & reduce waiting times.
