Recovery runs

Organisation:

Set out 2 goals 15 yards apart on the same line and split thegroup into two equal teams. A team starts in line with each goal 20 yards outwith a ball each. The practice starts with one player driving out and trying toscore in their goal, once their shot has been taken they sprint across to the2nd goal where they are faced with an attack from the other team. This playercan start their dribble as soon as the previous player has shot and then sequence is repeated

Coaching Points:

Dribbling Technique - explode into dribble and travel with pace

Execution Of Finish - shot on target, focus on connection with the ball, keep head over it

Reaction& Recovery - immediate transition to defending, no delay or hesitation get across to recover position and defend

1 v 1 Defending - fast approach slow arrival, you've work hard to get there now effect the attacker, dont let them use you momentum against you, how do we effect the attacker, delay/deflect, if we try to win the ball focus on timing, keep feet moving, body shape away from goal,

6v3 defending overload

Organisation:

5v3 SSG - defensive organisation/emergency defending

Attacking team have 10 seconds to score when play starts

Each set is 10 balls then we switch players around

defending team can score if they win possession of the ball

Coaching Points:

BODIES ON THE LINE

The defending team should show an attitude that reflects the emergency nature of the situation. They should be willing to block, tackle and put their bodies on the line.
STAY COMPACT

The three defending players should protect the middle of the pitch and stay compact, keeping the distances between players small.

However, they should not defend so tightly that they can be easily played around.
FORCE PLAY WIDE

The aim of the game for the defending team is to force play out wide and then stop the attackers from switching play.

This should result in a reduced overload in the smaller space they have forced play into.

COMPOSURE ON POSSESSION REGAIN

Having won possession, the defenders should
try to maintain composure on the ball to score in
the mini-goals.

However, they should not overplay and should recognise the risk in trying to keep the ball when outnumbered by the opposition.

Screen 4

Organisation:  6v6+2 SSG the neutral players work for whoever is in possession

looking to create overloads in attack to challenge each teams defensive organisation

Coaching Points:

BODIES ON THE LINE

The defending team should show an attitude that reflects the emergency nature of the situation. They should be willing to block, tackle and put their bodies on the line.
COLLECTIVE PRESSING DECISIONS

The five defending players should press only after noticing a suitable pressing trigger. Upon seeing that trigger, the entire defensive unit must press as one.
STAY COMPACT

The five defending players (in a 2-3 or 3-2 formation) should protect the middle of the pitch and keep the distances between one another to a minimum.

However, they should not defend so tightly that they can be easily played around.

MANAGING THE OPPOSITION
STRETCH THE PITCH

The attacking team should be encouraged to spread themselves wide and stretch the opposition’s defence.

This will help the practice, as the defending team will feel more like their situation is an emergency.
DEFENSIVE TRANSITION

When a team loses possession, the overload immediately reverses, so that team should make a quick and collective decision as to whether to press aggressively or fall back into a low block. This will be dictated by whether they notice a pressing trigger.
