Explanation:
The objective of the blue team is to score in the big goals by creating overloads in wide areas and in central areas which will be broken down into separate blocks. The yellow team is playing with 1 less outfield player and their objective is to understand how to defend against a numerical overload in wide areas and central areas and there target once gaining possession of the ball is to score in either of the small goals.
How:
The coach will manage the yellow team and focus on the blue team. The coach will challenge the blue team to create width in the wide areas and create overloads in those areas linking play with the midfield. The coach will encourage the blue team to have a numerical advantage in wide areas and central areas based on where the ball is. The coach will manage the yellow team and how they defend against the overload based on the challenges he has giving to the blue team. The coach will focus on the blue team and how players can link and interchange positions to cause problems for the defending team (overlapping runs, underlapping runs, striker dropping in and centre attacking midfield making runs in behind and centrer midfielders to create overloads with the wingers and fullbacks and one side of the playing area to create overloads and score. The blue team to leave one player out wide in the opposite far zone as an outlet player if the team can't progress up the pitch with creating the overload they can switch the play using the midfield.
Block 1 -
Only 1 yellow player is allowed to defend in the wide zones (yellows should defend only 2 zones). Highlighted zone is an area which yellows are restricted in (2 centrer midfielders). Blue team to create overloads in the wide areas.
Block 2 -
Allow an extra player to support the player defending in the wide zone. Highlighted area (no restrictions). Allow the centrer midfielders to support the defense by leaving their zone.
Block 3 -
Blue team to focus on creating overloads in the midfield. How the left/right forward players can move infield creating a numerical advantage and this creates space for full backs to stay out wide as an outlet.
Block 4 -
Yellow team to defend higher and apply pressure. Blue team challenge to 3 touches max to move the ball quickly
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Players are conditioned to playing in their zones (yellows) in first block, blues conditioned to having 1 blue player wide zone as an outlet
player causing problems for the defending team.
Limit the touches of the blue team.
If yellow have too much of the ball apply a 10 second countdown to score.
Leave the furthest player and stay compact (protect the middle).
Award extra goals for blue team when challenging them to score in wide areas or central areas (this will allow for this to happen regularly.Award 3 goals if yellow manage to score in the small goals.
