In diagraph A the pressure to player 11 is closer and forcing him to take first touch back in the direction of own goal thus pulling the pressure further onto own half and causing the distance player 3 has to cover in order to overlap to shorten. Player 11 plays the ball to player 6 who then plays the ball with the first touch in behind to player 3.
In diagraph B the pressure to player 11 is far enough away that he is able to turn and attack the defender thus creating the necessary space for player 3 to overlap.
