SSG (20 mins)

How to play: A 7v7 + GK breaking line SSG

Objective: Receiving and turning.

                   Scanning.

                  Weight of pass.

                  Movement

                  Break line from defense to attack. 

                  Find different angles to receive the ball turn to enable ball progression.

                  Use body to receive under pressure - Focus on 1st touch

                  Retain possession under pressure - Shield the ball.

Key coaching points

  • Receive the ball with a view to turning out in the direction of the next phase of play.

  • Constantly scan and check shoulders to identify the direction of the opposition’s press and where pockets of space may appear to turn and play into.

  • Use body and passing feints to deceive and eliminate opponents from the game to create space.

  • Focus on the quality of the initial pass, which should set the receiver up to turn quickly and seamlessly break the lines.

  • Create pockets of space and passing lanes when operating between the lines.

Out of possession team win the ball back in the middle zone and score in 7 seconds

Learning Outcome:

Technical: Ball accuracy. 

                   Half turn - Receiving on the back foot on the half turn will help maintain attack speed and ball progression.

Tactical :    Off the ball movement - creating separation from defenders will allow attacker to receive pass away from pressure and enable them create desired action more effectively. 

Physical: High repetition. 

Psychology- High level of quick decision making.
