Warm Up - Passing & Moving (10 mins)

Duration 5 Minutes

* Set up as shown (pitch size can vary) pitch split into 5 x 5 yard squares

* Three teams of four, each with a football

* Each team must pass and move the ball around the area

* Game conditions; - Cannot be in a square for longer than four seconds - Cannot be in the same square as a teammate

* Add conditions e.g. third man runs, pass must miss at least one square , first touch must take you out of the square

* Add one team as defenders

1V1 Activity (15 mins)

Set Up:

20X12 Area

Organization:

Play within the shaded area

Split yoour team into two or more eaqual teams. In their teams, the defending team has all the socccer balls. Defender passes a ball to attacker and quickly closes down and looks to win the ball back.

Focus:

1. Close down space quickly

2. Arrive controlled

3. Initiate contact and win the ball

Technical - Shooting Game (15 mins)

Tatical/Technical Component - 35 Minutes

Set Up:

Equipment Required - 2 Full Size nets, 2 sets of pinnies, All the balls

Field is divided in 2 sections.

Player Setup - 2 GK, 4 defenders & 2 Attackers in defferent halves (Rotate defenders and attackers every 5-10 minutes)

Instructions

First Progression - 10 minutes - Players must stay in their zones, Unlimited touches. If the ball is played out of bounds it restarts at keeper of the team that regains possesion. You can pass to your teamates in the other half to score or shoot from the defensive half. The objective is to keep the shots on tartget and score goals.

Second Progression - 10 minutes - Once players pass into the zone in front of them, the player that passed into that zone can now join into the section on the field. If possesion is lost the players must hussle to get back into original section. Loosing team does forfeit

Third Progression - 10 minutes - Once players pass into the zone in front of them, any player from that grid can join their team mates in the next group.

Fourth Progression - 10 minutes - Players from the defensive section can now pass or lob the ball into the strikers section directly. Once the ball is played into striker, a team mate from the middle section can join the striker. Loosing team does forfeit

2. Good contact on the ball (Laces or in-step)

Combination Play (15 mins)

Duration 20 Minutes

Set Up:

(30*25 grid) 3 teams of 2 players with 1 neutral.

Instructions:

2 teams play inside area with one team used as target players.

1 team is attacking while the other is deffending. Ones team uses combination play as often as possible trying to tranfer the 6 balls to the other side as fast as they can. Use the third person to your advantage. After the 6 balles have been transfered, repeat from other side.

When the defending team wins the ball, it becomes a 3v2 against the defenders while they try to keep the ball for as long as they can.

*This can be done with a 2v1 sitiation keeping everything the same.

Progression

When the ball is played to the opposite target player, play continues and attempt to go to the other side.

Move the ball quickly, looking for the spare player

Always be available when in possession

Out of possession stay tight to opposition, communicate with team mate

Soccer Tennis (15 mins)

Soccer Tennis: Pressure and Cover

Set-Up: Field is 30yds x 35yds, with 5 yard central zone. Balls

located centrally off to the side with the Coach. 3 teams of 5 in

different colour pinnies.

Instructions: The coach plays a ball in to one of the attacking team

who attempt to connect 5 passes whereupon they can transfer ball

across to other grid to score a point, ball must touch the ground in

the central area. The defending team defends with 2 players

against 5. The 3 remaining defenders screen the central area and

look to intercept passes. Play 90 sec then rotate defending team.

Progression: on interception teams flip roles, Coach re-starts with

ball in, attackers must get into central zone before applying

pressure.

Coaching Points: Stay switched on - immediate transition from

attacking to defending

1st Defender tactics - a.Make a decision which way to show

attacker b.Curved run to show attacker one way or the other

c.Close down space early and quickly d.Sideways on body

position e.Get low f.Stay on feet g.Watch the ball h.Be aggressive - initiate contact

2nd Defender Tactics - a.Communicate to 1st defender where to show the attacker b.Provide cover c.Be close enough to 1st defender

to step in and engage attacker if 1st defender gets beat d.Be aware of other attackers and dangerous space
