The goal of the session is to train players how to use possession as a tool to find open areas for players to take advantage of. Players should train using possession to lure defenders away from dangerous spaces for teammates to exploit. Observe player decision making in possession and continue to emphasize proper technique.

Exercise 1: 5v2 Possession- 6 passes = 1 goal. Defending team scores by dribbling out of the playing area under control. Grid size 10x15 yards.
Coaching Point: 1.Passing Technique. 2. First touch. 3. Movement & Communication. 4. Body shape open to playing area. 5. Decision Making (1st, 2nd, and 3rd level pass). 6. Win ball back quickly

Exercise 2: 5v2 (3v1 + 2v1). Play begins in 3v1 situation. Team in possession scores by passing to teammate in opposite grid. Defending team scores by passing to teammate in opposite grid. 1 Red player can join after ball is played over.
Progression: 1. Must connect 4 passes before passing to opposite grid. 2. Pass to opposite grid using 1 touch. Add more players to make 4v2 in each grid.

Exercise 3: 6v4 to goal with 2 small counter goals. Team of 6 attacks larger goal. Team of 4 attacks small goals. Grid size 40x30 yards.
Coaching Points: 1. Possession with a purpose (using possession to bait defenders in to play into open areas. 2. Movement away from ball. 3. Speed of play. 4. Win the ball back quickly.
Use this exercise to identify where possession is breaking down (1st, 2nd, 3rd level). Allow players to go through game like scenarios before making coaching points.

Game Play: 6v6 to goals. Adjust team shape if needed.
Coaching Points: Coaching within the game. Observe team decision making and how possession is being used. Teams should be looking to use possession to bait defenders in to finish play in open areas. Look for where possession may be breaking down.

Warm Up- Players passing and moving throughout the space. 1. Pass and sprint to the edge. 2. Pass and sprint 5-10 yards. 3. Receive ball and dribble 5-10 yards. Dynamic stretching throughout.
