SSG - Turning and Control

Organisation

  • 30x40 Yard Area
  • Two 5 Yard End Zones an Each End
  • Two Teams of 6 Players
  • Good Supply of Balls
  • Cones Ready To Add Gates

Aim

  • Dribble into the end zone and put foot onto the top of the ball to score a goal. There is a blue and red end zone.

Rules

  • No tackles in the end zone.
  • After a goal is scored the ball stays there and the conceding team gets a ball fed to them from the coach.

Progression

  • Add gates into the area using cones, team in possession must go through a gate before scoring in the end zone.

Coaching Points

  • Good Control when receiving a pass
  • Can the players use a creative turn to get out of trouble or move into space and off in a different direction.

Reasons to Intervene

  • A pass bounces away from receiving player - remind players to relax the foot on impact.
  • Turned into a player - need to get head up before the turn and be aware of where the space is.
  • Didn't get away from the defender - make sure they accelerate after changing direction.
