Relay Races (20 mins)
Organization: 10 cones, 2 different colors. zig zag to a four cone speed set up.
Instructions: Players in two teams relay race around the course first without a ball then add on later to keep the game fun.
Coaching Points:
Without the ball:
-Large strides (ronaldo strides) inbetween cones, to cover as much space as quickly as you can
-Small strides (messi strides) to get around the cone quickly
-Keep your body balanced, get low on the turn
-LOOK where you want to go next, before you even get there
With the ball:
-Big touch (long/ronaldo strides/touches) to get form cone to cone quickly
-Small touch (short/messi strides/touches) to get around the cone (defender) quickly
-Get your head up and look where you want to go! Nothing is easier than getting where you need to go by looking at it.
Progressions:
Add a ball after a couple of races and the kids get a bit bored.
For better players have them do ten toe touches before they go, or five to ten juggles.
