4 Goal Game (15 mins)

Create a grid that is 40 by 40 (or bigger if you have more players)

  • The objective of the team in possession is to score a goal in any of the 4 goals in the middle of the area

  • When in possession, teams can play around and behind the goals, utilizing the whole area of the field

Points of emphasis:

  • Focus on accuracy, timing, and weight of the pass
  • Players should work on having an open body position when looking to receive the ball
  • Good first touches are important
  • Make the space as big as possible by staying spread out
  • Find positions that will allow you to be able to see the ball

7v7+3 Game

Set up a playing area that is the width of the penalty box and has three zones that are 20 yards long.

  • Players are locked in their area and not able to come out of their zone creating a 2v2+1 (apart from the defensive third which has a goalkeeper).
  • Play a directional game, however, when the ball goes out of play, the ball starts with one of the goalkeepers

Points of emphasis:

  • Players under pressure should use turning moves to get out of tight situations
  • Players in each third need to support the ball when it is not in their zone
  • Use movement to create triangles and diamonds to provide passing lanes
  • Attackers need to be able to pass the ball through the opposition to create goal scoring opportunities
