Warm-up game/Rondo (20 mins)

1st Phase, intentional free play or rondo.

Objective: To welcome the players and create positive routine. Encourage the players to take initiative for the activity.

Organization: For a game, set up small sided fields that are approximately 30x40, 4v4, max! For the rondo, play 4v0, with a player sitting out. If a player on the inside makes a mistake, sub that player out. In the 5v1, switch the middle player every time there's a mistake.

Key words: Open your hips, take your touch away from pressure and use both feet.

Guided questions: 1.When do you turn? 2.Why do we get wide? 3. Why do we let the ball go across our body?

Answers: 1.If you see space around you. 2. In order to support the player on the ball and spread the defense. 3. As the ball goes across our body and we use our back-foot, we can take a much better touch into space or away from pressure.

2nd Phase, ball mastery/technical work

Objective: Work on receiving with the back-foot

Organization: Everyone does the same exercise at the same time. As shown, set up groups of 3 to start. In exercise A, the player in the middle practices receiving with the back-foot, by receiving passes from both sides. In exercise B, both of the players on the cones have a ball. The middle player works on receiving on their back-foot while working hard off the ball. In exercise C, the middle player has to cover more space by running outside the square to receive the ball.

3. As the ball goes across our body and we use our back foot, we can take a much better touch into space or away from pressure.
