Description

Coaching Position: (Main Focus)

For my coaching position in both practices, I will be circling around the perimeter of the practice whilst avoiding entering the area, where I could be in the way of the practice. I will also avoid standing behind the goals or standing near the goalposts as it could be distracting for players and also mean that I could be in the firing line of a ball coming towards me. Finally, for my coaching position I will need to balance being near players to bullseye them or give feedback to them whilst also getting a good view/angle to be able to analyse their technique.

Technique (15 mins)

Players: 8

Time: 15 mins

Equipment: Bibs (20), Cones, Flats, Balls, Whistle, Stopwatch

Work:Rest ratio: (4:1)

Area size: 24x18m w/ 4x4m square in the middle of a half of the pitch

Description: 

 4 players positioned on 2 different lines. 

1 player from Team 1 will drive into the square, shift the ball out of their feet and strike at the goal opposite them.

 Once they have taken their shot, 1 player from Team 2 will perform the same task. 

Players return to the same line 

Technique to be valued over speed or urgency

Adaptations: (Progressions & Regressions):

  • Mini Game: Bibs placed in corners of the goals worth 2 points. Regular goal is worth 1. (60 seconds, winning team gains a point)

  • Both teams go at the same time
  • Adjust area size accordingly if necessary

Coaching Points: 

  • Head up to pick target (pick surface) (Middle of ball = low) (Underneath ball = high)
  • Standing foot planted as well as hips facing direction of where you want to strike it
  • Chest over ball, no leaning back
  • Open up the body
  • Lock ankle
  • Follow through with your strike
  • Laces = Power
  • Side foot = Accuracy
  • Use laces predominantly for finishing across your body as follow through will be more prominent

Planned Interventions: 

  • Team Meeting: At the beginning of the session to explain the practice
  • Walkthrough: Players will walk through the practice with a demonstration before playing live
  • Freeze: Pause the practice when there is common mistakes that need to be addressed to the group
  • Bullseye: Pull an individual to the side to give feedback on session performance
  • Concurrent: Delivering feedback throughout the entire session whether it be positive or critical

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:  

  • Bibs placed in corners of the goals worth 2 points. Regular goal is worth 1. 
  • Hit all 4 targets during the 5 min session
  • 3 touch max (one to advance in box, one to shift, one to shoot)

Description:

4 players positioned on 2 different lines.

1 player from 1 line will drive into the square, shift the ball out of their feet and strike at the goal opposite them.

 Once they have taken their shot they will immediately come back into the square to defend the other team. This cycle will keep repeating.

Must enter the square in order to have a shot on goal

Defender cannot leave/tackle outside the box

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

  • Add GKs
  • 4 seconds to score
  • Mini Game: Bibs placed in corners of the goals worth 2 points. Regular goal is worth 1. (60 seconds, winning team gains a point. Losing team picks up the flats. If draw, both teams pick up flats.

Coaching Points:

  • Touch out of feet: Always using outside of the foot as it is away from defender
  • Emphasise movements: Selling the keeper with eyes or open body position
  • Head up to pick target (pick surface) (Middle of ball = low) (Underneath ball = high)

  • Standing foot planted as well as hips facing direction of where you want to strike it
  • Chest over ball, no leaning back
  • Open up the body
  • Lock ankle
  • Follow through with your strike
  • Laces = Power
  • Side foot = Accuracy
  • Use laces predominantly for finishing across your body as follow through will be more prominent
