Specific Practice Set-up (5 mins)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

RED vs BLUE

Progressions: Allow BLUE CB's to advance into final third (past the white reference line going across the pitch) to support the attack.

Bring the white line of cones back towards RED goal - Meaning that the reference line is closer and the RED team will need to be more disciplined in their positioning. BLUE team have a bigger area to play uncontested.

Regressions:

Add one more red player as a second number 10 or as a CF to apply pressure on two BLUE DF's & BLUE CDM's.

Push line of engagement closer to the halfway line to stop the BLUE's having a bigger area to set-up their attack.

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

Challenges: Unit - No shots at goal for block of 5 minutes Individual - "Can you win the ball back in 10 seconds"

Individual - "Can FB's stop all crosses from Blue wide players"

TEAM - "Can we limit vertical passes into the BLUE number 9" "Force play wide & then back towards halfway line x3 during each block"

Conditions - Red team can only actively press once the ball passes the line of engagement. Ball must start from the shaded area on halfway line.

Target - Blue team attempting to score in red's goal. Red team to win the ball back and score in mini goals situated on half way. 15s limit for the red team to score into 3 mini-goals around half way line once they win possession back.

PROBLEM 1 (5 mins)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

PROBLEM 1 - BLUE CAM (10) looks to make an a run into the half space between RED RB & CB to cross from the half space inside the area.

RED right sided CDM tracks run of BLUE CAM (10) and looks to stop the cross from the half space towards with their body shape and block any opportunity for a cross.

RED right sided CB protects the space in front of BLUE CF. Left Sided RED CB gets across the BLUE CF to limit space and opportunity if a cross comes into the box across goal.

RED RB needs to be goal side of BLUE LW once the pas has been made. RED RB must be aware of any supporting movement of the BLUE LW. The RED RB must try and force play away from goal if the BLUE LW gets the ball back from BLUE CAM.

RED left back is marking the BLUE RW and ensuring that they limit space and opportunity for the winger to get a shot at goal if the cross comes to the back post (BLUE RW runs towards back post).

RED Keeper moves towards front post in case the BLUE CAM (no 10) strikes directly for goal or crosses towards near post - keeper moves across if the the ball is played in.

Left Sided RED CDM tracks the run of BLUE CM towards the back post OR towards penalty spot. RED Left sided CDM looks to block off any strikes at goal from a BLUE cutback.

RED CAM (highest player) stays around the edge of the D of the penalty area in case the BLUE CDM makes a late run into the box. RED CAM can be pivotal in the transition when the ball is won back and the REDS attack the three mini goals on the half way line.

General Rule - Red's stay compact through the middle area to force the play wide and limit opportunities to play through lines.

Protect the middle

Force wide and then back (away from goal).

Red Centre Backs look to protect the middle space with the Blue 9 and Blue 10 occupying the middle zone. Red Pivot players CDM's move centrally and force the play wide by not allowing Blue 10 to get on the ball in the middle zone.

White line is line of engagement - Red defence becomes active once the ball passes that line.

Keeper shuffles across when the ball shifts wide in its respective direction.

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

Challenges: Unit - No shots at goal for block of 5 minutes Individual - "Can you win the ball back in 10 seconds"

Conditions - Red team can only actively press once the ball passes the line of engagement. Ball must start from the CDM on halfway line.

Target - Blue team attempting to score in red team's goal. Red team to win the ball back and score in mini goals situated on half way.

PROBLEM 2 (5 mins)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

PROBLEM 2

BLUE CB plays the ball into the BLUE RW. BLUE RW plays the ball into BLUE Right sided CDM for a cross from a deeper position into the box. RED CDM body position tries to show the player back down the line away from the box.

RED LB has to be aware of the 1-2 for a pass in behind for the BLUE RW to run onto cross or cut in and get a shot away at goal. RED LB Presses the BLUE RW initially then retreats to protect the space inside the LB and CB.

RED Left Sided CB protects the near post for the cross and ensures they block off any opportunity for the CF to get time and space in the area. They are also aware if the 1-2 gets played back to the BLUE RW so they must slide across to support the RED LB.

RED left sided CDM comes across to try and block or stop the cross from coming in. The player should present a body position to block the cross and show play wide.

RED right sided CB anticipates the cross and closes the space of the BLUE CF.

RED right sided CDM shuffles across to pick up the BLUE CAM (no 10), while RED CAM (no 10) drops to pick up BLUE left sided CDM.

RED RB tracks the run of the BLUE LW who will be looking to arrive at the back post for the ball in from the BLUE right sided CDM. If the ball is played back to BLUE RW, the LW will check their run to arrive later. RED RB must be goal side and have a body shape to be able to see the player and the ball.

PROBLEM 3 (5 mins)

9v9 SMALL SIDED GAME

PROBLEM 3

Red team miss a chance a goal - RED LB, RED CAM & RED CF are caught up the pitch behind the ball after the BLUE Keeper plays the ball quickly to the BLUE RW.

RED LB looks to recover with a straight line run inside to block any cutback passes from the BLUE RW. Also RED LB looks to double up with RED CB when they delay the BLUE RW.

RED left sided CB shuffles across to engage the BLUE RW. CB tries to delay BLUE RW and looks to force the winger wide and blocking off crossing options with their body shape and positioning.

RED left sided CB comes across to block space of BLUE CF looking to finish from square ball. RB Slides across to a central position and leaves the furthest player (BLUE LW).

RED left sided CDM recovers to track BLUE CAM (no 10) run and block off a central cutback. RED right sided CDM sets up their body position to track the run of the BLUE CDM and maintains a central position to force play away from the central channel.

RED CAM (no 10) makes a straight run to a central position so they can be well placed as an out ball in the transition when the ball is won back. They will also pick up any BLUE DF player who joins the attack.

Red team to win the ball back and score in goal situated on half way. 15s limit for the red team to score into goal at half way line once they win possession back.
