Block 4, week 4
Aim
Noticing that the GK's are doing a lot of backward dives so we will bring this forward by going back to basics for an extended warm up. We will then move onto having them all pushing into their dives to reach the longer distances.
Equipment
Balls

Markers
Small hurdles

Diving
Aim
To confirm to the GK's the different dives that are required in and around the goal to ensure they are in a good position to reach the ball
Instructions
Collapse dive: (1)
When the ball is close to the GK, the GK will 'almost' only lift his near leg and fall to the ground! The GK will actually use his outside leg for any power into this dive. The set position must always be correct, weight forward and reaching out for the ball
Step dive: (2)
This is where the GK will be required to push into the dive, it will definitely assist the GK to have his weight forward AND BE ON THE BALLS OF HIS FEET. The GK will take a step to the relevant side and push into the dive with his near leg in order to reach the required distance
Step, drive, dive: (3)
The dive is used for the distance dives or when a lot of power is required for the GK to make the 'top-corner' save.
Again, the weight MUST be forward and they have to be on the balls of their feet.
The GK will step towards to path of the ball using short, sharp movements and then using their inside leg, push up, along or both with the inside leg to reach the required distance.
For all these dives, they have to have the desire to reach the ball

Hopping the hurdle
Aim
To have the GK using 1 leg to push over a hurdles(s) to create power for a dive
Instructions
The GK, using one leg, will hop over a hurdle 6 times.
The GK will then move backwards around a cone and then move into the small goal to receive a sharp shot from the coach
(Both legs and sides are to be worked)
Progression
2 hurdles are used and the GK is not allowed to touch the middle

Hop, skip & jump
Aim
To start the GK with a power push into a dive to enable her to reach the ball.
Instructions
The GK will start behind the hurdles.
The GK will move through the hurdles by hopping on one leg, when he reaches the end of the hurdles she will use that same leg to push into the dive
(Both sides to be worked on each leg)

Sharp shooting
4-a-side game
(2 mins)
The ball will start in the centre with a player from each team passing to each other, the coach will shout 'go' when they are to start playing
ONLY THE ATTACKING TEAM IS ALLOWED TO HAVE THEIR OUTFIELD PLAYERS IN THE OPPONENT'S HALF. This will cause a 3v1 situation
Quick fast play from all teams. Lots of early shots on goal
If the ball gets stuck a coach can shout 'new ball' and feed a new one in from the side of the pitch
