Wave Defence (90 mins)
Wave Carousel
Each carousel runs for 15–20 minutes, depending on the starting time, with a 5-minute break between each section for rest and transition.
SSG (Small Sided Games)
Games involve 2 or 3 rotating teams, depending on the number of players available.
1v1 Defending
Players engage in 1v1s from wide positions, alternating between starting on the left and right sides. The red attacker attempts to beat the blue defender, exit the box, and score. The defender's goal is to stop them. After each turn, the attacker becomes the defender, and the defender joins the back of the attacking line. Sides are then switched so every player practices defending from both sides.
Defending Wide Areas
One team (Reds) defends against an overloaded attack by the Blues. Blues use wide players who cannot be tackled directly. Reds must either cut off passes to the wide areas or defend crosses/passes once the ball reaches the wide player. Defenders are coached to protect the central areas first—if they shift wide too early, they risk allowing an easy central goal. Scoring: 1 point for a regular goal, 3 points for a goal assisted from a wide area.
Defending Against Overloads
Begin with a 2v1 situation, then gradually progress to 3v2, 4v3, and so on. This can be run either as a continuous wave or a progressive build-up, with the focus on maintaining defensive structure under pressure.
