Warm Up and Lead in to Main activites:

Passing, Receiving, Handling.

5 minute warm up incorporating all the basic movements and skills that will be required in the sessions.

Phase 1: 5, 10 and 15 yard passing. Working on both feet using one touch and two touches.

Phase 2: 10 and 15 yard volleys. Goalkeeper to catch and then distribute the ball with both arms using underarm and overarm techniques.

Phase 3: 10 and 15 yard strikes from the floor for increased realism and pictures for the goalkeeper. Goalkeeper to distribute the ball back however they wish. Encourage a different technique each time.

Priority:

1.) Warm Up.

2.) Good Technical actions in preparation for the sessions.

Movement into Position:

This session starts with the goalkeeper facing away from the server. The server throws the ball across the box and the Goalkeeper reacts to the ball passing his eye line. The goalkeeper then deals with this ball by moving into position and looking to play a pass into the mini goal. From here he moves back across his goal using the ideal foot patterns to get into line with the server who then strikes at the goal for the goalkeeper to deal with.

Work both sides.

Adaptations:

1.) Goalkeeper to dive on the moving ball before distributing with a throw.

2.) Focus on a certain technique with the shot if the goalkeeper is struggling with a certain action.

3.) Different serves mean different scenarios (Example: a bouncing ball the Goalkeeper has to dive on the ball and then distribute with his hands. A rolling on the floor serve means the goalkeeper plays a pass into the goal. Encouraging goalkeeper to deal with visual cues rather than having a prescribed action to perform thus increasing realism).

Priority:

1.) Foot patterns- Movement into position in order to execute a first time pass and to deal with a shot on goal.

2.) Technical decision- Type of save? Foot, hands, block? Catch or push away?

Movement into Position 2:

Server starts with a ball in his hands. He is then to bounce it or drop it to his left or right. The goalkeeper then sprints out and deals with the ball as quickly as he can and dives on the loose ball before distributing into one of the mini goals. In the meantime the server will move to one of the spare balls on the opposite side. The goalkeeper should then look to recover into position as quickly as possible and deal with the shot from the server.

Will try and work both sides but will focus on the priority side if there is one and also want to keep the goalkeeper guessing as much as possible for added realism.

Adaptations:

1.) A straight bounced ball means the Goalkeeper has to sprint out and play a first time pass into one of the mini goals. Can be adapted further to make the goalkeeper aim for the mini goal on the side that the server moves away to so the Goalkeeper has some visual cues to think about again.

Priority:

1.) Foot Patterns- Movement into position in order to deal with the ball safely, securely and efficiently.

2.) Technical Decision- Type of save? Foot, hands, block? Catch or push away? Diving- Timing of the action.

Key Aspects of the session:
