To develop players’ ability to recognise which dribbling techniques to use based on pressure and situation

Technical Progression (10 minutes)
Progress to include a mini-goal at each corner of the practice. Now, every time a defender wins the ball, they have to pass into one of the mini-goals to become an attacker.
With this added target, it is important for the coach to emphasize the mechanics of dribbling (Head up, change of pace, change of direction) as there is added competition to score goals so these skills will come under sharper focus.
ADDED GAME/PROGRESSION- Remove all cones and give each player bar one a ball. Players must dribble round the area protecting their ball. The defender must steal balls and score in mini goals. If they do, that player is now a defender aiming to do the same. Last person standing with their ball wins.

This game is to encourage good decision making and really focusing on the mechanic "Get your head up" - to attack the space
Player A starts with the ball, player B must enter the pitch through the opposite gate to player A.
Once both through, player A aims to score by dribbling through the opposite gates.
Progression- Can defender steal the ball and dribble through opposing gates.
Progression- 2V2
This practice will be set up on two separate pitches to maximize ball rolling time.

This game is a progression of game 1 to ensure good session transition and maximize ball rolling time.
The condition that player A & B must now start by running through opposite gates has now been removed.
However, the condition that they dribble through gates before scoring still applies and they must now score into the goal.
From a coaching perspective, it is important to coach and observe the players ability to change direction and speed with this new target.
Potential regression- Remove need to dribble through gates
Progression- Goals must be scored within two touches after dribbling through the gate.

5 v 5 small sided game
At each end of the playing area, there is a central mini-goal and two wide gates marked out with flat markers.
The team in possession can score either by passing the ball into the central mini-goal.
First 5 minutes- Goals are worth double if they are scored in wide goals
Next 5 minutes (To increase realism)- Goals are worth equal points in all areas
Last 5 minutes- Free play, wide goals no longer worth points at all.

Technical Practice (5 mins)
This is a ball-protecting game in which players have to evade pressure to earn points.
Attackers must use their dribbling skills to avoid defenders and score points by dribbling through gates (Flat markers on floor) If a defender steals the ball, they now become an attacker.
Coaching points:- Focus on mechanics of keeping the ball close and using different surfaces of the foot to begin with. Maxmise ball rolling time by making sure changes of attackers/defenders are quick and sharp. Players get rewarded for scoring points by dribbling through free gates, so they should be constantly seeing pictures and looking to attack a free gate.
Possible regression- Remove a defender
Progression- Add a defender or remove gates
