Functional Defending 1v1 from crosses and straight ahead 1v1's.
Defender, plays ball out to attacker and defends 1v1. As soon as play is over, both players have to run to Orange cone, As soon as that happens, wide right player whips a ball in for attacker, defender has to try and clear it out. As soon as play is over, both players have to run to orange cone and repeat form left side.
Scoring:
Defender gets a point if they can successfully clear the ball past yellow line
Attacker gets a point if they score in big goal. If clearance isn't successful, wide players can play it in 1st time for defender to work on clearance.

Double Down - 4 Zone Game:
Field is set-up into 4 zones. Field dimensions will depend on number of players. Important to err on space being too big than too small to bring out the topic.
- Players are to stay in their respective zones when defending. Offensively, players can go anywhere.
- As soon a ball is played into a zone, it's live. If black team starts with ball, and is successful in playing the ball into other zone where black teammates are, then blue players 'double down' form behind and blue players in defensive zone apply immediate pressure to not give space and time to player.
Scoring:
Team get's one point for scoring in small goals.
Coaching Points: Communication, defensive shape, preventing penetration and Doubling Down if ball gets played through.

Defending in Defensive Half
2/3rd of the field. 6-8 Attackers vs. 8 field players + GK. (Need 16 minimum)
Always restart with Black Team. Black team gets 1 point for scoring on big goal, if blue team wins the ball they have up to 5 passess to get a shot off.
Coaching Points: Defensive team (blue): Communication, shape, prevent penetration, double down
Relationship between OM & AM are very important. Whos pressures and which angle in which situation?

I. 2v2 Pressure Cover (20 mins)
2v2 Small Group Defense Progression
1) Passive: have two players pass the ball back and forth. The other two defending work on staggered stance and forcing attacker wide. Other defender needs to provide cover in case the first defender were to get beat. attackers are not trying to beat defenders. They just hold on to the ball for 3-4 touches. Switch Roles.
2) Live: 2v2 dribble across the line.
3) Add one player on each end. To score attackers can pass the ball to target who then lays it off to one of the two attackers who dribbles across the line. Defenders have to "double down" which means to turn and sprint back so to apply pressure from behind.
Coaching Points: Where do we force them? Two principles small group defense: 1. Communication, 2. Shape (pressure-cover)
