Throwing Techniques (20 mins)
Set up goalkeeper, central server, wide receiver
All players throw ball in same way towards each other.
Under-arm throw:
step in with oppposite foot, pointing towards target
bring throwing arm back directly beside the body
face target
release ball along the floor (not too early so that it bobbles or too late so that it goes upwards first)
Move server/receiver back
Javelin Throw
Step in with opposite foot, opposite hand pointing towards target
Bring ball back towards ear with elbow bent (spread fingers to cover greater area of the ball)
push ball from ear towards target
flight of ball should be flat and direct. Ensure correct timing on release
to make it easier for team mate to control, make sure the ball makes contact with the pitch early and begins to roll as it gets to player
Move server/ receiver back further
Over arm throw:
Step in with opposite foot, opposite hand pointing towards target
Bring upper arm past the ear with arm straight (spread fingers to cover greater area of the ball)
drive the ball towards target
flight of ball should be flat and direct. Ensure correct timing on release
to make it easier for team mate to control, make sure the ball makes contact with the pitch early and begins to roll as it gets to player
To play over players and onto tem mate, release ball earlier to achieve height and distance
