Description

This is a function which gives an example of one of the ways to defend from the front with a 9 and two wide players. It intails the 9 splitting the pitch in two and showing the play down one side, setting a trap for our Left wide player to intercept / win posession off of the opposition LB

Defending from the Front with 9 and two wide players (15 mins)

Key Factors:

- Front 3 starting position is NARROW.

- Once the GK has played to the oppositon CB the 9 must curve his run to show the play down ONCE SIDE.

- As the 9 makes his movement, the LW must position him self inside the other opposition CB to stop the option of an EARLY switch of play.

- As the 9 makes his movement the RW must stay narrow and then release on the travel of the ball to close down the opposition LB creating a 1v1 trap against the touchline or intercept to win the ball back.

(once the ball is in the right half of the pitch, it effectivly becomes a 2v2 with our 9ST/7RW against there 5CB/3LB)

( Once the ball has gone to the opposition LB. The 9 must cut of a pass back to the CB)

- If the ball goes back to the GK. We must GET BACK INTO DEFAULT SHAPE

- exactly the same principles if play goes to the other side from the opposition GK.

Opposition: Play out from the back and score into the mini goals. Only Full backs can score. GK is involved in the play always.

Organisation:

- Using flat makers as a guide for the front three to take reference from.

- Create a 1v1 for our 7 against their LB

- Create 2v2 for out 9 and 7 against their CB and LB.

- CDM screens and stops switch

What If?: If the passes are to quick between the opposition and we cannot stop the switch, and the ball goes back to the GK. The front 3 drop back into default narrow shape and take reference from the flat makers and we use the principles given to execute the press again.

On the ball: 9 locks play down one side forcing the pass to the full back.

Around the ball: The 7/RW stays narrow inviting the pass the the fullback. The 7/RW is ready to release/press with the travel of the ball to arrive on the fullbacks touch or even better intercept.

Away from the ball: The opposite winger/11 changes his position and steps onto the other opposition CB to stop the switch.

Equiptment:

-flats/bibs/balls/goals + players

Advance to include RB (5 mins)

*(Advance from previous Drill.)*

If the winger cannot win the ball from the pass to the LB. Show the play down the line into the opposition LM and our RB can intercept/spoil play.

Key: Our RB starting position must be just off the shoulder of the oppsition LM which will allow him to nick infront to win possession.

ONCE WE WIN POSSESSION COUNTER AND TRY TO SCORE WITHIN 7 SECONDS.

Key Factors: If we cannot win the ball make the full back play back to the GK. This gives us the opportunity to drop back into default shape and go again.
