Warm Up - Ball Mastery (10 mins)

Field Size:

  • 25 x 25 yard field

Duration of Exercise:

  • 10 minute technical reps and touches on the ball.

Rules:

  • All players with a ball each at their feet
  • Do not let the ball stop moving

Coaching Points:

  • Keep me ball close to your body
  • Attack space at speed when possible
  • Use of all surfaces of the feet
  • Moves and skills on the ball - v turn, L turn, step overs, boxes, etc.

Technical - Flying 1v1 (15 mins)

Field Size:

  • 35x20 yards to big goals

Duration of Exercise:

  • 2 minute round and then break to provide coaching points

Rules:

  • one team starts and dribbles past half to score
  • the moment the player shoots, the opposition player dribbles in trying to get past half in order to score
  • player who shoots reacts to try to defend and win the ball, it is a live 1v1
  • if the ball goes out of bounds, the opposite side attacks
  • back and forth goes for time and points added up after round

Coaching Points:

  • how should we approach the ball when pressuring?
  • why should we do this?
  • How do we turn two options into one?
  • Can we defend the half line, replicating penalty box in game.

Main Activity - 2v2 The Cage (15 mins)

Field Size:

  • 30 x 40

Duration of Exercise:

  • 5 minute running clock x 1 minute break for coaching points

Rules:

  • Everyone gets into a pair
  • Game starts as a 2v2 until a pair score
  • The team that scores subs off on the side they score and a new pair dribble on
  • The team that gets scored on stay on and defend the opposition goal
  • Have to score to get off the field. If ball goes out of bounds, pair get a ball from their goalie 

Coaching Points:

  • how should we approach the ball when pressuring?
  • why should we do this?
  • Can we defend our box?
  • when we start getting tired, focus and concentration at the most

Field Size:

  • 45 x 35 yard field

Duration of Exercise:

  • 2 minute games, winner stays on.
  • first team to score 2 goals wins
  • stay on as long as possible, want to win

Rules:

  • No one touch
  • Four players on the posts and have two touches to get the ball back in play for team
  • 1 point for goal
  • 2 points for goal off ender

Coaching Points:

  • Can we protect our box? Can we deny opportunities around our goal?
  • When do we want to step in to block?
  • What does it look like when the opposition is trying to shoot?
  • When is the moment to win the ball? Do we have to win the ball?
