Learning Outcomes: By the end of the session, players will:
- Understand the importance of ball shielding in football.
- Demonstrate good shielding technique when shielding the ball
- Apply ball shielding techniques to their performance in a game scenario
Shielding Technique:
- Place the body between the ball and the defender.
- Point the shoulder at the opponent.
- Have the knees bent, and feet must be shoulder-width apart.
- Place an arm in the centre of the opponent’s chest.
- Use the arms, shoulders, body and legs to keep the opponent away.
- Keep the ball moving by using the foot farthest from the opponent

Begin Semi-opposed. Players with the ball will practice shielding the ball whilst defenders will put on light pressure (no tackling).
Progression - opposed:
20-second rounds. Full intensity. Players will battle 1v1 to retain possession of the ball. After 20 seconds player with the ball lifts the ball as a trophy to win the game. Switch partners around every few games.

Players will sprint around the blue cones and into the box. Player who gets the ball shields the ball from the other player for a 3 second countdown. After countdown the players play a 1v1.

Standard 3v3 tournament. Coaches can give out extra points when players demonstrate good shielding techniques.

Tails Game
All players tuck bib into shorts as a "tail". Defender wears bib. When a players bib gets pulled by a defender they must put their bib on and join defenders team. Last player left with a tail wins.
Begin to introduce shielding technique.
