Warm up (10 mins)

Main Objective : Fun, Repetitive warm up activity

  • Split into two teams
  • Dribbling from one end of pitch to other
  • Navigate through gates of cones in middle of pitch
  • Salomon through cones on outside
  • Repeat process 

Coaching Points:

  • Good control
  • Use of small touches or long strides
  • Scanning to find route through cones
  • Effective turns at end of corridor
  • Speed/Acceleration

Adaptions (Progression - Regression)

Progression:

  • Include a number of gates player must navigate through before continuing
  • Add a 15 second timer to complete circuit
Regression
  • Walking pace
  • Give players a long time to complete a circuit.
Challenges, Conditions and targets:
Challenges: 
  • Can you dribble using both feet, outside of foot only, soles of foot?
  • Can you find 5 red cones to dribble around before carrying on?
Conditions:
  • Must take a minimum of 20 touches before reaching the end
  • At the end of the pitch, you must show me a turn (inside, outside hook, drag back etc)

Targets:

  • Can you complete circuit at least 10 times in 5 mins?
  • Next time, I'm going to set you a target of 20 gates you need to dribble through before continuing.

Technical game (10 mins)

Keep Your head up - Dribbling game

Set up - Four cones/gates 20x20 in a diamond shape, place a load of cones in middle of diamond 1ft space between in approx. a 10x10 area.

Objective: On coaches first signal a player from each gate dribbles into middle cones and attempts to dribble within area avoiding other players.  On coaches second command they return to gate and next player goes.  Add different directions to increase the need for head being up eg. clockwise/ anti-clockwise/ closest cone.  Be sure to use different dribbling techniques eg. toe taps/ sole of foot/ outside

CP:

  • Weight of touch
  • Close control
  • Space awareness
  • Change of direction
  • use of turns (inside hook/outside hook)
Progression: Include visual commands - identifying gates with different colours, coach can raise a coloured cone for all players to race towards.

Regression: make spacing between cones larger to make easier for players to navigate.

Challenges, Conditions and Targets:


Challenges:

  • Can you preform a turn inside the cluster of cones?
  • Next time you must beat the player to your left
  • Can you use only your weak foot?
Conditions:
  • Must stay in middle until coach says to leave
  • Avoid traffic at all costs

Targets:

  • Can you take 20 touches within the cluster of cones?
  • Next time don't touch a cone

LOOP passing (15 mins)

SET UP

have players get into partners, with a ball per pair 

DRILL 1

2 cones 2-3 yards apart at each end 6 yards apart (progression12 yards apart)

DRILL 2

1 cone at each end start at (6 yds apart, progress to 12 yds)

OBJECTIVE

DRILL 1 

Pass back and forth to your partner between the 2 cones

make a positive touch forward while receiving the pass under control don't let the ball go back through the cones on your 1st touch 

Make a pass back and repeat

DRILL 2

LOOP passing

1. 1st pass to the left foot

2. passer moves into position to receive the next pass

3. positive touch to the right behind the cone 

4. pass back to the partner.

CLOCKWISE

Pass to your partner's left foot, they receive the ball on their left foot.

With the receiving touch they make a positive touch to their right behind their cone and then play a pass to their partners left foot and they repeat

COUNTER CLOCKWISE 

you will receive with your right foot and make a pass with your left foot

COACHING POINTS

proper pace

proper accuracy

receive the ball with the instep "progression receive the ball with a sole roll in the direction you want to go" 

opening up to play a positive touch in the direction you want to move

Diamond shooting drill (10 mins)

SET UP

set up 2 groups ina diamond

numerous balls at player 2

OBJECTIVE

2 passes to 3

3 passes to 4

4 passes to 5

5 goes 1v1 with 4.

rotate where you play the ball to.

5 (top line) becomes keeper

4 goes to line #2

COACHING POINTS 

Proper pace and accuracy on pass

movement off the ball (going to next line)

attacking quick change speed change direction get a shot away

Defending Low body position angle player away towards the outside
