Animation 1

  • Activity : 2v2 to goal

  • Objective: Improve Decision making in the attacking half

  • Goal: To create 1v1 and 2v1 opportunities in the attacking half.

  • Age Group : 2014 Boys U9

  • Players: 8-10 players

  • Field space: 25 x 30

  • Equipment needed: Cones, bibs, small goals.

  • Set Up: 1 field 25x30 with 2 teams of four to five players.

  • Training Activity Time: 15 min


Activity: 2v2 to goal

  • One attacking player will start at the halfway line and pass to his teammate that is next to the near post on the goal line. defending players on the opposite goal line will then come out to make it a 2v2. Attacking players are looking to create 2v1 and 1v1 chances to score on goal. If the defenders win the ball they're able to score on the goal on the other endline just as they would in a game. If the ball goes out of bounds, they play will be dead. If the goalkeeper saves the ball they are playing the correct team out now to attack.

Time Duration

  • 4 to 5 minute rounds with 30 seconds to a minute recovery in between. Players should recieve atleast 15-20 reputitions during the activity as both an attacker and defender.

Coaching Interactions

First interaction: How can we beat the defenders to score a goal? Answer: pass or dribble. How do I know when to pass? Answer: When my teamates is open and I am under pressure. How to I know when to dribble? Answer: when the defenders are giving me space. Okay now can we work on reconizing if we should dribble the ball or pass the ball. Let them go back and play.


Second Interaction: 

Use an example to piant a picture on the field. How can we create a 2v1 situation? Answer: pass to my teamate can move so I can pass to him. How can we create a 1v1 situation? Answer: I can run into space to take a defender with me and let my temmate dribble. So what are we looking to creat here in the attacking half? Answer: 2v1's or 1v1's.


Third Interaction: So when in the attcking third what are we looking to do? Answer: score goals How are we able beat defenders in the attacking half in order to score goals. Answer: by passing or dribbiling. What kind of situations are we looking to creat in the attacking half. Answer: we are looking to create 2v1 and 1v1s.
