Description

Learning outcome: 

What: Attacking skills with ball 1v1s - to successfully beat defenders using open space ahead or changing directions to unbalance defender.

Who: 1st Attacker -Player with the ball , 1st defender- Player applying pressure and trying to steal the ball

Where: Middle and Attacking third (opponents side of the field closest to goal)

When: When a player recognizes space and can accelerate away from pressure

Why: In order to create scoring opportunities and take advantage of space in the opponents half.

Intro (10 mins)

Organization: Intro (10mins)

  • 20x30 
  • 1 player per ball

Instructions:

  • Each player dribbles with a ball - players get points by doing individual technical skills in between two players 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Where is the open space?
  • What technical skills can you do to split two defenders?

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Less defenders 
  • P- Add more defenders 
  • P-Once player loses ball to defender they now become the new defender, player should go look to win another players ball

Main Activity (15 mins)

Organization: Main Activity (15mins)

  • 10 x 15 Area Size (2 Fields set up)
  • 2 teams of 3 players in each field 

Instructions:

  • 1v1s 
  • Attackers on one side of the goal and the defenders on the other  side 
  • Give every Attacker and Defender a number 1-3 make sure they remember their number
  • Defender must stay on the line until attacker takes first touch with the ball, defender is trying to win the ball back and counter attack to score in the goal
  • Attacker is trying to dribbling and cross the end zone or coned area with the ball
  • 15-20 second games
  • After ball goes out of play, or Attacker crosses the end zone with the ball, or the Defender wins the ball back and scores in the goal, the next Attacker and Defender goes 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Where is the space
  • Can we attack the space ahead using bigger touches?
  • Head up to see defenders position
  • Protect shield the ball when defender is close to continue to dribble 
  • Can we recognize when to change direction to unbalance Defender?
  • What individual technical skills can you use (feints, inside-outside, scissors,...etc)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Have Defender wait 3-5 seconds after Attacker's first touch
  • P- Have Defender pass the ball to Attacker to start
  • P- instead of End zone or coned area place another pug goal
  • P- 2v2s

Conditioned Games (10 mins)

Organization: Conditioned Game (10mins)

  • 10 x 15 Area Size (2 Fields set up)
  • 2 teams of 3 players in each field

Instructions:

  • 3v3s
  • Objective is to score goals but challenge players to dribble past a Defender into the open space team will get 2points, If players dribble and use a skill move in the defenders half of the field they get 3points

Coaching Points/Questions:

    • Where is the space
    • Can we attack the space ahead using bigger touches?
    • Head up to see defenders position
    • Protect shield the ball when defender is close to continue to dribble
    • Can we recognize when to change direction to unbalance Defender?
    • What individual technical skills can you use (feints, inside-outside, scissors,...etc)

Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- 3v2s or 2v1s
  • P- Give players a total of points to win the game for example first team to 10 points wins

  • 3v3s MIN/4v4s MAX

Instructions:

  • Tournament style win 3 min games or 2 goals 
  • Switch teams facing off every 3 mins

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Role of the 1st Attacker (player with the ball (dribbling/shoot/pass)
  • Role of the 1st Defender (player closest to the ball -apply pressure to attacker)
    • Where is the space
    • Can we attack the space ahead using bigger touches?
    • Head up to see defenders position
    • Protect shield the ball when defender is close to continue to dribble
    • Can we recognize when to change direction to unbalance Defender?
    • What individual technical skills can you use (feints, inside-outside, scissors,...etc)
