Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Finishing Zones In and Around the Penalty Area

Session Plan:

Phase of Play which focuses on the Attack. Teams should be looking to create good goal scoring opportunities to score. The Pitch will be split into the Zones to reference players, where to move the ball as it does not have a direct influence on the attack (Red Area), Where to play the Final Ball - Or on occasions there may be shooting opportunities (Blue Zone) and where players can look to finish (Green Zone)

Coaching Points 

• When Players are in the Red Zone, they will need to look at how to progress the ball into a blue zone, Players should avoid going from Red to Green as this can heighten the risk of losing the ball and wasting the opportunity to create.
• When Players are in the Green Zone, they should be looking to finish first time, this is because of the high risk to the opposition they may look to compact and overload quickly, preventing the good opportunity to finish.
• Players should be looking, when playing the final pass from the Blue Zone, to play the ball on the ground, from these areas the "Assist" should be coming and players should be looking to both minimise risk of losing the ball but also creating the first time finish opportunities (There however may be times players need to lift it over - this should be a picture drawn on the pitch for the players to see, free man at back post etc.)
