Principle of Play/Main Moment/Football Problem or Four Core Skills:

Session Objective: Attacking Principles (U6 – U9) -  Penetration/Mobility/Improvisation 

  • Can you run with the ball?
  • Can you keep your head up when running with the ball?
  • Can you use both feet when running with the ball?
  • No standing zone!
  • Correct running/dribbling with the ball technique.
  • Correct tackling the ball technique.

Kangaroo Jack (15 mins)

Session Organisation:

  • Every player starts with a ball.
  • Field size 20 (L) x 30 (W).

Rules/Explanation:

  • Players with a ball are to start by running/dribbling with the ball across the area.
  • The coach calls out or blows the whistle to start which signals the players to do above.
  • Player No.9 starts hopping and try to win the ball off players with a ball either by a tackle or tagging them. 
  • Once players lose the ball or get tagged they are out.
  • Last player with the ball who hasn't been tagged is the winner.
Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.
  • Aim to improve running/dribbling with the ball.

Session Timing:

  • Complete 3 sets of 4 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
