Part 1

Organization:

1v1 with even numbers on both teams
Two gates

Instructions:

On coaches command Red player goes and tries to go through one of the gates before the Blue team player can tag them. Blue player gets a point for tagging

Technical Coaching Points:

For Red team How can we shift our bodyweight to trick the defender into going one way, while we burst and run the other way.
No hesitation on which direction we are going in.
For Blue team can we quickly run in and take away the space from the Red team player.
Even if beaten by the red player, can we continue to stick to the player

Part 2

Organization:

Same as the first activity but now with a soccer ball

Instructions:

Red team player starts with the ball and tries to beat the Blue team player to one of the two gates.
Red team player gets 1 point for crossing a gate
Blue team player gets one point for if they stop the red player within 4 seconds, they could get a second point for stealing and taking control of the ball.

Technical Coaching Points:

For the Red team: Keeping control of the ball with small touches, and when available driving and using speed to get through gate.
Using skills like body feints to create space for one's self
For the Blue team: Can we quickly take the space away from red team player.
closing down the defender and hassle them off the ball
Using the tag element from the first part of the session to close down the player quickly and creating contact.

Tactical Coaching Points:

For Red team: Shifting body weight to unbalance defender
choosing when to accelerate or hold the ball for a second.
For the Blue team: Standing in the "surfer position" ready to go left or right.
Forcing player on ball to shift over to their weaker foot/side

Part 3

Organization:

Two lines of players, even numbers
One cone in between them

Instructions:

Player A (Red) 'Attacks' the cone, and after going around, they pass it to the next player across (Blue)
Line cycles until all players have gone and attacked both sides of the cone.
