Description

An intense session to start the season, it must be 100% and the players must know that they are competing for positions in the team. Lots of running in both the possession drill and murderball in the end, where the players fitness will be tested. Especially for the 2010 and new players, good habits must start to be taught and being brave on the ball and not passing on responsibility. The ball is faster, stronger and more physical than any player, and we must let the ball move if we are to have success this season. It will take time for the new players to adjust to a different style of player and the physical demands that will be put on them this year.

Must see who has trained over the summer and if we need fitness training or not. I want pre season to be on the pitch and with the ball, but if players are not physically ready, we will have to change the pre season structure like in the winter. Don’t forget to send fitness plans to players in the group chat. Meeting next week about tactics and expectations of u17 for this year. Most likely on 21 July.

Screen 1

Long warm up as it is first session back, 15 minutes minimum.

Some players will probably have been lazy and not done running or played football over the summer, so risk of injury is a lot higher than normal at this time.

Stretching-movements-passing drill/bago and then into fast possession drill.

1-  Australia warm up. Jogging through with warm up and also dynamic stretches. Running around cones, high knees, heel flicks, high kicks, sidesteps etc. Finish with fast feet in between the cones.

2- Fun reaction game to get body moving and sharp movements. Change of direction, coach will shout red or blue and players will race through the gates. Set up 3 stations so that players are not waiting at all. Side-steps, shoulder to shoulder, and other ways as well.

3- Transfer game 6v2, make 7 passes and then you can transfer the ball to the other area. Turn into 6v3 and the intensity should start to get faster now and the pressing must be fast, and the ball must move fast as well. Progression is adding another defender and also letting the players in the middle block.

18 plus 2 jokers Gk

Rules:

10 passes is 1 point

Passing through a gate is 1 point

3 minute rounds but at 100% intensity, nobody walking around.

Progression:

Add dribbling through gates

1-2 counts as 2 points

Switching from side to side extra point

Coaching points:

Not keeping the ball for long periods of time- dribbling in this drill is not the way to success

Operating in small areas, how can we combine to solve problems quickly?

Keeping the ball in the middle and not getting stuck in corners, can we recognise overloads and where to move the ball. Must be aware of the situation.

Switching ball from side to side and finding the free man. The ball must be moving quickly and not being selfish with the ball!!!!! Test decision making

Murderball

10v10 on full pitch. Ball is always served into play by a coach.

5x4 minutes

2 minute rests in between and water break. Hopefully weather is not too hot for players

Must be super high intensity, no fouls unless it is dangerous.

Formations: 3-4-1-1 vs 4-3-2. Even teams and try to put players in natural position if possible.
