Warm Up (10 mins)

RWB Warm Up

Set up as above, 3-4 players per line, 15-20 yards apart.

1) Player dribbles the ball, lays off to front player in other line, who dribbles back across. After dribbling join the back of the other line.

2) As 1) but instead of joining the back of the other line after laying off the ball, player who has just dribbled runs backwards as quick as possible back to their original start point. Player dribbling tries to beat player running backwards.

3) As 1) but after laying off the ball the player who has just dribbled runs around the back of the other group and chases the new dribbler back to the other side.

(in 1 players switch sides, in 2 and 3 players should always return to their original line)

Coaching Points - toe down and use laces to kick ball, head up to see where you're going, first touch big out of your feet to accelerate into the space.

Dribble -Pass-Dribble (20 mins)

Dribble-Pass-Dribble - set up as shown above with players at each end with a ball each and 1 defender and 1 attacker in the middle channel.

First player dribbles toward the channel, defender moves to close down their space (defender can only defend in the middle channel), player passes to other attacker in middle, who then dribbles to other end. Player who passed the ball stays in the middle channel, and the play is repeated from the other end with the next attacker dribbling in.

Coaching Points - dribble at speed with big touches in space and smaller touches as get closer to defender, head up, draw defender before passing to other player (not too close that defender can get the ball), player receiving the pass good 1st touch out of feet so can accelerate away (don't allow the defender to get back across and win the ball).

Continuous 3v2 (20 mins)

Continuous 3v2 - Set up as above with spare players behind the end lines with balls ready to play. 3 attackers against 2 defenders. Score by dribbling over the end line. If the team of 3 score, the player that dribbled over the line leaves the game and returns (outside the field of play) to their end, the other 2 stay on and defend a new 3 attackers from the other team (that teams defenders leave the field and return to their end). Continuous play. If the 2 defenders win the ball they can score by dribbling over the other end line but they must then stay on the field and defend a new 3 attackers from the other team.

Coaching Points - as above, when to dribble when to pass, quick offensive movement to not allow the defenders to recover.
