Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Receiving skill variations with pressure behind; - Taking negative touch, to turn and face defender. - Receiving ball with first touch, using the inside of the other foot to take the touch into space beside the defender. - One touch flick around the defender using the outside of the foot. Player passing the ball to 'send message' with weight of pass i.e. under hit pass to draw the player towards the ball to receive; over hit pass to receive, holding off the defender.
Technical Tactical
Players to start recognising the following: 1. low pressure from defender = receive on the half turn or with body shape open to and play forwards. 2. Medium pressure from the defender = Take a negative first touch to slow tempo slightly and encourage the opponent to over commit and then take second touch around the defender. 3. High pressure from defender = opponent over commits so can you outplay the opponent in your first or second touch?
