Second Practice: 4v4 plus Target players
Team in possession is trying to pass the ball to the Target player. All passes must be below head level.
2nd progression: 1 player from the defending team can press after the blue line. This player keeps changing throughout the practice as the ball shifts. The pressing player goes back to his unit, another player who is the closest decides to press or hold after blocking opponents forward passes.
key coaching points:
1) compact defensive shape with the appropriate depth, distance and angles.
2) closest person to the ball presses, players around the ball cover and players away provide balance.
3) players away from the ball need to have a body stance that will allow them to shift quickly and close down passing lanes when the ball is switched to the other side.

GK + 4 vs 5 plus target players
Balls are fed into the yellow team who try to break the red line and play to the striker who attacks the goal in 1v1, 1 player from red can later join the attack to make it a 2v1 and have more success for the yellow team and make reds understand the importance of blocking forward passes through & around the midfield unit.
When reds gain possession, they try to pass to one of the target players to get a point. Target players then feed the ball directly to yellows. (Target players can also switch to the other target player who can then feed the ball)
Key coaching points:
1)Same as the previous practice
2) Quick reactions on transitions to recover the compact shape and put pressure when possible.

1-3-1 vs 1-3-1 plus GK's Small Sided Game
focus is on the 3 midfielders out of possession and on transition.
Here, after the line is broken, midfielders are allowed to recover. recovery runs must be central and towards the goal.
