Relay setup - Split players into 4-6 teams depending on numbers & space
4 different colour cones for 4 different distances the players will be passing.
Red = Starting cone/where players wait their turn
Yellow = 5 yard pass
Blue = 10 yard pass
Green = 15 yard pass
One ball per team
Relay aim - For players to be quick on their feet, perform quick 2 touch passes whist under pressure by other teams to finish first. Working on technique of their pass + concentration & communication of all players.
Coach to demonstrate how relay is done
Relay walkthrough -
Player at the front of the line will sprint to the first yellow cone when the coach shouts go
The player second in line with have the ball at their feet & move upto the red cone as soon as teammate has set off
When player reaches the yellow cone, they will spin to face teammates
Player on the red cone with pass the ball into the teammate & receive the ball back again
Player to spin & sprint to the blue cone & then receive pass
Same procedure for the green cone
Player then sprints back to teammates
Player who was playing the ball from the red cone now sprint to the yellow & all players shuffle up one to the front.
At this point coach needs to reiterate that concentration is needed, warn that if the weight of the pass is not correct then players will have to fetch after it ultimately slowing them down & slowing the team down. Also to reiterate the importance of sorting their feet out so they can control & pass very quickly whilst under pressure (Use example in a game, they know a defender is coming so they need to get the pass off quickly & move into different space)
Progressions include -
More passes at each cone
1st time passes
Have to use both feet
Have to shout players name before they can receive ball
Award points & rewards for each race to keep players engaged & motivated to do well.
Players to move onto matches after this session again with encouragement to get quick passes off in the games.

Warm Up Drill
Start the session by giving all players a ball to dribble around the hall. Coach to give challenges for different skills/turns etc
Bring players in to explain that they will be working on passing focusing mainly on the weight of pass. They will then move onto passing races to put what the have learnt into practice before finishes with game.
Warm up setup -
Players to be split into 4/5 different teams numbers depending
Cones are placed down so half the team line up behind one cone & the other half facing them 5 yards away to start off with
*Diagram is to show the different distances the warm up with progress. 1 = 5 yards 2 = 8 yards 3 = 12 yards 4 = 15 yards - You do not need to set up 4 sets of cones per team, simply have the players pick the cones up & shuffle backwards to make the area size between the cones bigger. The 4 sets of cones are for diagram purposes only.
One ball per team
Warm up aim - For players to get used to passing different distances & understanding how to control wright of pass. Also lots of movement involved in the session to keep players on their toes & getting used to moving as soon as they have passed the ball.
Coach to demonstrate how to start the drill
Drill is simple - Control the ball, pass to teammate on opposite cone then sprint to the back of the opposite line. Play keep's going until coach informs players to stop
Players then pick up cone and make the cones 8 yards apart as seen as number 2 on the diagram
Then number 3 distance
Then number 4 distance
Coaching points to be delivered inbetween each movement of distances - recap all previous weeks coaching points reinforce all players needing to be on their toes
Weight of pass is important, players must look up & see the distance first
Make sure that ankle is locked & follow through reiterated
The further the distance the more power need to be placed into bringing foot down to connect with ball
Progressions for the drill -
When players pass the ball, they back pedal to the back of the line they were already in
1 touch passes
Competition with other groups - which team can pass 20 times the fastest without losing control
