Play Phase

Players are split into 5v5 plus 2 neutrals.  Condition for this play phase is to imrpove players spreading out, finishing and decision making with the ball.  Players look to complete passes, for every pass they make before scoring they get that number of points.

Coaching Points

  • Players on the ball look to make positive decisions on the ball
  • Players off the ball, utilize space to create good attacking situations
  • Once we break into the opponents half can we create a quick scoring opprotunity to goal
Progressions
  • Challenge the neutral players to play one touch so the possession aspect is harder.
  • When the team is in the opponents half challenge them to score within 15 seconds - to encourage quick play and forward runs off the ball.

Technical Phase RWB

Practice is a 1v1 running with the ball exercise.  Teams alternate when they attack and defend.  The key is for the player on the ball to find success in 1v1 attacking situations.  If the defender wins the ball they look to dribble out through one of the opposite gates, so the player can react to defend.

Coaching Points

  • What is your end goal in this attacking situation? How far are you from goal? What is your strengths?
  • How can you unbalance your opponent to find success?  How can you impact your strengths to this situation?
  • When you are past your opponent, do you need to get closer? Can you shoot? What impacts your decision?
Progressions
  • Make it 2v1 situations - allow the player who was just defending turn to help create a 2v1 situation.

Conditioned Game

Only condition of this game is players must dribble or receive the ball in the final third to create a goal scoring opportunity.  Players can run with the ball or dribble into the final third to create an attacking chance, encourage free flowing movement but quick play as soon as we break into the final third.

Coaching points

  • How can we create space for our team mates to have successful 1v1 situations.
  • If we break out wide, what options of support can we give the player on the ball, show me examples and why we would use them.
  • When we break into the final third - what is our end goal? How can we do this quickly!!
Progressions
  • Once team breaks into the final 3rd they have 12 seconds to create a scoring opportunity, cross/shot/dribble etc.
