Description

In the session I aim to improve the team’s ability to transition from BPO to BP in our back half, by knowing when to play forward quickly, and when to recycle possession.

5w's

What: Last weekend we were unable to recognise when to play forward at pace, and when to try to maintain possession when we win the ball back in our Back third. this meant we either kept turning the ball over, or offered no threat to the opposition in this moment.

Who: Our . and their 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,7,11 and their 1,2,5,6,8,10,7,9,11.

Where: Central area's in our defensive third

When:  When we win the ball back from the opposition in our low block .

Why: We weren't able to recognise when to play forward quickly and when to maintain effective possession.

Main Moment: BPO - BP

Team Model Key Learning: Quick Forward Movements and effective possession.

Passing Practice (20 mins)

Rules:

  • Ball starts the yellow player as shown.
  • Ball gets played to the blue team who circulate it before playing it into the opposite yellow player and finishing. Every player must touch the ball.
  • The ball then goes back the other way with the red team who do the same.
  • the defensive team looks to stay in a block

Progression:

 1. Defenders put a bit more pressure on the ball. Not every player needs to touch the ball

 2. Players must finish from someone other than the player who played it into the bouncer.

3. No tackling, but full pressure, if you score you get to keep the ball.
