Playing out from the back passing patterns (15 mins)
Building / Playing out from the back Passing patterns in a 4-2-3-1
* The build up play will always start with the GK either from a goal kick or with the ball in the GK's hands / on the floor
* Set up as above for all the patterns we will work on - players must move into these positions when the GK has the ball
- CB's split to the edge of the penalty area
- FB's to push high and wide
- No 6 drops in between CB's
- No 8 must always be at an angle from No 6 to receive a forward pass on the move
- No 10 must always be at an angle from No 8 to receive a forward pass on the move
* Players must have a maximum 3 touches
* Passing pattern to finish with a pass played into one of the target goals (representing a quality final through ball)
* Patterns to be walked though first before being done at match tempo / speed
Option / Pattern 1
- CB's split to the edge of the penalty area
- FB's to push high and wide
- No 6 drops in between CB's and receives the ball off the GK
- No 8 must be at an angle from No 6 to receive a forward pass on the move who should have many options to pass forward to
- No 8 should be able to pass to 10, 2, 3, 7, 11 and 9 or play a long ball over the opposition Back 4
Option / Pattern 2 - This pattern is to be used if playing against a team who are pressing high up the pitch
- CB's split to the edge of the penalty area
- FB's to push high and wide and receive the long pass from the GK
- No 6 drops in between CB's
- No 8 must be more central to protect the middle of the pitch but shuffle over to either FB who receives the ball to provide a passing option
- FB's should be able to pass to 10, 8, 7, 11 and 9 or play a long ball over the opposition Back 4
Option / Pattern 3 - is to set up defensively staying compact with the GK kicking long
* Opposition can be added to create game realism - 6 opposition players playing a 3-3 and a GK with 1 central goal to score in.
