Learning Outcomes:
- Developing the understanding of wing back play by allowing the 2 and 3 to have freedom to go forward up the lines
- Begin to develop the understanding of how the 10 and 9 interact in terms of movement off the ball
- Create many opportunities for the 9 to run into wide channels for passes down the side lines
- Gives more opportunities to work on balance from the wide defender on the opposite side of the ball in defense
Formation Weaknesses:
- Possibility for lower numbers in the attack as more players committed as "defenders"
- No natural width in the final third as there are no wingers, i.e. 7 or 11
- Less stability in defending from central positions as only one center back, 4
- Requires loads of athleticism and stamina from the wing backs, 2 and 3
Formation Strengths:
- Stability in the back line as there are three defenders, 2, 3, and 4
- More mobility in the attacking third among the 9, 10 and 8
- More opportunities for combination play through the middle with more players designated to central positions.

Learning Outcomes:
- Introduce the relationship between center backs and working together to protect the goal
- Begin to develop the relationship between the 6 and the center backs in possession
- Develop wing play from the 7 and 11 while also developing the need to defend as wingers
- Teach 9 to stay central and expand depth to create more space for wingers to move into the field in the attacking third
Formation weaknesses:
- Lack of outside backs means more ground to cover for 4 and 5 as well as 7 and 11 in recovering
- Potential decrease in mobility up front in the center with the absence of a 10 (or 8)
- Possibility for underloaded middle as only one center mid, 6
Formation strengths:
- Natural width in attack with two wingers
- Potential for more players to get forward with balance provided by center backs
- More opportunity for playing out of the back from the goalkeeper as there are multiple lines of attackers
- More opportunities for crossing and wing play
