Technical Passing (25 mins)

Organization:

-15-17 players

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area approx. cones 8 yards apart

A)

-working in 4s players will work on basic passing and receiving skills. Dribble to the middle and pass ball to team mate, then follow pass to other line. See which team get the most good quality passes to their teammate within 2 minute time

B)

2 touch passing and follow-See which team get the most good quality passes to their teammate within 2 minute time,

C)

-make distance smaller 5 yards and do 2 touch passing

-progress to 1 touch. Count point when ball goes through the gates. Player receiveing the must be behind the cones in order for goal to count.

D)

Dribble to the middle of the area, make a pass to your team mate and must goal throught the gates to get a point. If player receives the ball in front of the gates they don't get a point.

Each drill go for 5 minutes with right foot then do same drill with left foot before moving on to next drill.

Variations/Progressions:

-passing with non-dominant foot

Coaching Points:

-weight and accuracy of pass

-good 1st touch

-body shape to receive

-part of foot/part of ball

-communication with team mate

-lock ankles when passing

2v1 Drill (20 mins)

Organization:

-15-17 Players

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area aprox. 25x15 yards (adapt for age/ability/numbers) -split into 10/10/5 yard areas

-Play starts with 2 attacking combining with a overlap which is the cue for defender A. Defender A can only defend in Zone A. If attackers make it through to Zone B, that is the cue for defender B. If attackers get through Zone B they attampt to score past the GK. If the defenders win the ball - defender A can dibble/pass it into either mini net, defender B can pass it forward into defender A to try and score. Rotate defenders each time, rotate attacking/defender after set period.

Progressions/Variations:

-start game off 1v1

-attackers must score on first touch

-allow defender A to track into Zone B

Coaching Points:

-good decision-making -read the defenders movement and positioning - should I dribble into the space or pass to open team mate, "suck" defender in and "pass to pass" the defender, attack with good speed, finish with accuracy
