Transition phase of play (30 mins)

Organisation:

- 13  players (including gk)

- 1 big goal, 1 mini goal

- 1 ball

- 2 areas;
                  - 1 will be width between 18 yard box and touchline and depth tapered between the 18 yard D and halfway line D
                  - Other area will tapered to narrow in at the halfway line.

- Blues will be attacking the big goal in a diamond midfield and 2 CF shape.

- Yellows will be defending the big goal and trying to counter in the mini goal in a GK, back 4 and midfield 2 shape

Set up:

- Play will start when the coach plays a ball into one of the blue midfielders. They will then try to combine to create a goalscoring opportunity.

- If the yellows win possession, they will look to play the ball into the next zone where their 2 midfielders will try to score in the mini goal

Coaching points:

For defending team:
- Defend compact and narrow

- Do not be played through

- Triggers to press

- Press/shuffle/step as a unit

- When possession is won - first pass forward

For attacking team:

- Find the overload

- Quick combinations to disorganise opposition defence

- Decoy runs

- If you see a sight of goal - hit the target

- If we lose possession - counter press aggressive

Progressions:

- One of the CM of the attacking team will now drop into the red grid to provide a twin screen, leaving an AM, CF and 2x wingers

- The defending team now bring one of the midfielders back

Time:
