- Defending players to hold different colour bib to identify as defender for the exercise.
- Black bibs left at side for extra defenders.
Practise - British Bulldog (15 minute)
As per technical session, players are to run with the ball from one side on the pitch to the other, however there are now defenders trying to get the ball off the players running with the ball
- 6 Runners stand with ball by a red cone
- 2 volunteers hold black bib and stand in the playing area.
- 6 runners are to run with the ball as per technical practice to the other side and stop on the blue cones.
- No restrictions are in place on direction to run or how fast. the key is to get to the other side with out being caught.
- 2 defenders in black are to challenge the runners and kick the ball away from them. the ball must clear the area for the runner to be out.
- If the runners ball is kicked out they must fetch their ball and put it by a red cone and pick up a black bib and join the defending team.
- The last runner standing wins.
Continue to repeat practise making sure everybody has had a good go at defending.
Players to put the ball on red cone and go for drinks break, where coach describes the progression.
Progression 1 / through the gates.
- As per above there are 6 runners and 2 defenders.
- The players start on the red cones with the defenders in the middle.
- This time the runners must run with the ball through a gate (yellow cones) before getting to the blue cones and stopping.
- Defenders are to kick the ball away as before.
Progression 2 / Keep score.
- The pitch and exercise is the same set up as progression 1
- However this time the runners gets points for every gate they go through to tempt them to go through more than 1 before getting the the blue cones.
- The defenders do the same kick the ball away and caught runners join the defence.
- The winner isn't the last runner standing, it is the runner who scored the most points.
