5v2 Tech Practice (15 mins)

OBJECTIVE of 5v2
  • - To improve defensive organization and communication from the front.
  • - To improve understanding of how to force the play in one direction to set a trap.

Explanation- this is a 5v2 game with 2 neutrals playing with the team in possession. The team in possession try to keep possession for 10 passes. Two defending players press agressively , leaving one defender in the other half awaiting ideally in deep position for a turnover of possession.

RULES:
  • 1.The two neutrals must play in the half the ball is.
  • 2. The team in possession look to get 10 passes, the defending team look to win possession and transition by playing a pass to the other square.
  • 3. After 5 passes, the third defender can go in and press if they want (optional).
  • 4. If the ball goes out of play vary the delivery in.

ADAPTATIONS/ PROGRESSIONS Allow the third player to press for 5 seconds if they feel they can win the ball. Can be played as a 6v4 or 7v5 but smaller numbers are better to get a hold of the defensive concept. NOTES: Coaching notes.1. Get compact and do not let passes split through the middle.2. The deepest defender ( defender in the other half ) should communicate with teammates and force the direction of the press.3. Mirror defensive body positions forcing the play in one direction.4. Assess players touches and passes and make good decisions when to press aggressively. 5. Stay on your feet and don’t run past the ball when pressing.
