1. Position Principles
The closer to the goal, the wider the positions.More width creates more space.
We stretch the opponent horizontally.
The wider the positions, the slower the attack
Slower means more control. Stretch the opponent to create space for combinations.
Remember: No offside for goal kicks.
2. Attack the space behind the defensive line
We want to outplay as many opponents as possible. If possible, attack the space behind the last defensive line.Pass behind the fullback.
3. Play through Opponents Lines through the center
Outplay as many opponents as possible. This forces the defenders to move, because they want to defend their goal.We disorganize the opponent.“The objective is to move the opponent, not the ball.” (Guardiola). We don't have a player in an offensive position yet.Long passes mean that the receiver has an opponent behind him.To get a player in an open position, we need the third man concept:
The opponents open space when they attack. We have more space for combinations.
4. Switching play
Switching playWe have numerical superiority.Use the goalkeeper to switch play when we can't outplay the opponent.Avoid horizontal passes in front of the goal:
5. Outplay Opponents over the outside
Outplay the opponent on the outside if necessary.
Detail: High passing speed to beat opponents with the first touch.Too slow: The opponent can isolate the opponent outside.
